“I believe in the power of images to evoke sound.” — Christian Marclay Grab a blanket and join us on the grassy hillside next to the Walker for a special evening of playful and conceptually rich works by artist Christian Marclay and live music by a renowned experimental trio of Laurent Estoppey, Ikue Mori, and Anthony Coleman. The evening begins with DJ Jacquie Fuller from 89.3 The Current spinning music at 7 pm, followed by a live performance of Graffiti Composition (2002), Marclay’s open-ended score composed from graffiti drawn on blank music sheets that he posted on the streets of Berlin. (The artwork featuring this unconventional musical notation is on display in the Walker’s Cargill Lounge.) At dusk, the trio retakes the stage to perform the moving-image graphic score for Marclay’s Screen Play (2005), introduced by the artist. The presentation of live music with the found-footage film and computer-animation montage offers “an extraordinary evening of looking and listening” (New York Times). Have a drink or a bite from the food trucks, or just hang with friends and enjoy the setting sun with one of the most beautiful skyline views in Minneapolis. Stop by the galleries for a last look at Marclay’s The Clock, a 24-hour cinematic tour de force that unfolds in real time, on view from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight.
