Festival Lineup
DAVE & DAVE
Dave Simonett and Dave Carroll, of Trampled by Turtles, are playing a rare duo show. Simonett is TBT’s lead vocalist/guitarist, while Dave Carroll accompanies him on banjo and harmony vocals. The duo plays an assortment of songs spanning Trampled By Turtles, Dave Simonett’s solo work, some choice cover songs and more.
HALEY
Haley has been making music since high school, when her first of many records was self-released before graduation. Her first punk band was called Frankie Horsesh*t, and a decade later she founded the punk/new wave band Gramma's Boyfriend, which she is the front woman and main songwriter for. Haley has published short stories and poetry, produced all of her 9 full length LPs, and self-recorded, produced, and released 5 EPs.
Until 2017, she released under the name Haley Bonar before choosing her maternal surname 'McCallum', shifting her stage name to just 'Haley'. Many of her songs can be heard in tv shows such as Orange is the New Black, Transparent, Arrow, United States of Tara, as well as commercials and film trailers. In 2013, Haley was awarded the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for performing songwriters. She has toured across the United States, Canada, Europe, and the UK.
LANUE
Feeling detached from her previously released work as years lapsed, Duluth, Minnesota’s Sarah Krueger set out to Hive, a small studio nestled near the river in her hometown of Eau Claire, WI. In the course of two separate sessions, (the first on the cusp of a long winter, and the second on the fringe of summer’s swell), Krueger assembled a cast of collaborators to help flesh out a collection of songs that would later become the catalyst for Lanue. Culled from the title of a poem that found its way to Krueger from a thrift store shelf, Lanue comes to us as a project that stands firmly in front of a fresh creative backdrop and boasts a more developed taste and sincerity than Krueger’s previous releases — both a welcome departure and anticipated return.
KISS THE TIGER
Kiss the Tiger pounced onto the Twin Cities’ music scene in late-2016 and have been making big waves ever since. In February of 2017, Kiss the Tiger were the runner-up in Star Tribune’s ‘Are You Local?’ Best New Band competition. In 2019, they were recognized as a “Picked to Click” band by City Pages, an end-of-year round-up of the best local bands voted on by their peers. That same year they headlined the Star Tribune stage at the Basilica Block Party, the largest outdoor music festival in Minneapolis, drawing around 25,000 attendees. The Current included their music video for “Bad Boy” off of their full-length album Let Me Bleed in their Best Minnesota Music Videos of 2019.
NAT HARVIE
Married in Song, the latest collection from Duluth, MN-based Nat Harvie (they/them), finds its origins in those events more akin to divorce. Following the release of their solo record, Nat Harvie’s Broken Record, Harvie told their then partner that the album was made for them. “I told him, ‘I know you know this already, but I made it for you. I did it for you,’” recalls Harvie of a confession to their then-partner on the precipice of their breakup. Harvie recalls their partner’s reaction to Broken Record’s dedication. “He responded in the most cruel way he could have, but he wasn’t wrong: ‘You did it for you, too,’” they say. The relationship was not salvaged. In its wake, Harvie began writing and recording the songs that would eventually make up Married in Song, a short, yet concentrated affair that cannot help but invoke tenderness and reflection on the part of listeners.

FATHER HENNEPIN
Homegrown’s “house band” Father Hennepin will be decked out in rhinestones this year. Front man Scott “Starfire” Lunt has been tooling around with a chain-stitch embroidery machine during the off season. He’s created honky-tonk outfits for his band: guitarist Ted Anderson, accordion and keyboard player Susan Ludwig, bassist Bob Olson, drummer Brad Nelson, and guitarist Jimi Cooper. Lunt founded the Homegrown Music Festival in 1999, one year after his 30th birthday concert that served as the Fat Hens debut .

EMMA JEANNE
Indie punk-pop songwriter and guitarist Emma Jeanne Rothwell is new to the scene and quickly rising and one of our favrite performers. Emma Jeanne was recently awarded the Palamino Grant Award by famed local bluegrass heros Trampled By Turtles and will open the show for them this summer at Bayfront Festival Park.
BOSS MAMMA COLLEEN MYHRE
Colleen (Boss Mama) Myhre has soul, and she pours it into every note. With complete control of her voice, “Colleen (Boss Mama) Myhre has soul, and she pours it into every note. “- Tony Peterson – Social Animals. With complete control of her voice, Colleen takes listeners on an emotional ride from smooth country heartbreak to foot stomping Americana blues and beyond. Her songwriting ranges from honest emotion and earthly imagery to the raucousness of horses, strippers, and whiskey. Myhre is a true American singer/songwriter grounded in her passion of soulful and heartfelt music.
THE POLKAROBICS
Not a lot of fitness-and-polka content pops up in a YouTube search for “Polkarobics.” But some does, including a 45-minute video of low-impact aerobics performed to some well-played polka. This is not that polkarobics. This is the Duluth band comprised of scene veterans Suzi Ludwig, Jimi Cooper, Veikko Lepisto, Brad Nelson and Tyler Dubla, who are out there meeting the Twin Ports demand for polka and Oktoberfest music. The set list includes straight polkas and waltzes, zany songs about hoppy beer and lederhosen, and waltz and polka renditions of country swing and 1980s pop tunes.
