Brigitte Calls Me Baby
The music of Brigitte Calls Me Baby is equal parts elegant time warp and up-close exploration of our modern-day neuroses. The Chicago-based band ingeniously spans genres and eras, merging the lavish romanticism of mid-century pop with the frenetic energy and spiky intensity of early-millennium indie-rock. Centered on Leavins' hypnotically crooning vocal work, the result is a rare convergence of sophistication and style and unabashed sincerity.
As shown on their debut EP This House Is Made Of Corners—a five-song project made with nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer, Dave Cobb. Brigitte Calls Me Baby possess a singular musicality informed by Leavins' eclectic upbringing. Originally from the Southeast Texas town of Port Arthur, he grew up listening to Roy Orbison records at his grandparents' house next door, while his parents played him new-wave bands like The Cars and his friends turned him onto Radiohead and The Strokes. At age 13, Leavins took up guitar and began writing songs of his own, quickly discovering his distinct vocal style. "At first I didn't like the way I sang and couldn't really do anything about it, but as I got older I started to appreciate it more," he reveals.
Newly signed to ATO Records after a much-buzzed-about set at SXSW 2023, with their full-length debut due out in 2024, Brigitte Calls Me Baby remain intent on striking a balance between refined musicianship and absolute devotion to emotional truth.
Joseph
For nearly a decade, Oregon-bred indie-pop trio Joseph have performed a certain emotional alchemy with their music, channeling their deepest inner tensions into songs that spark a life-changing shift in perspective. In the making of their third studio album The Sun, Natalie Closner and her sisters, twins Meegan Closner and Allison Closner focused their soul-searching songwriting on the quietly damaging forces that keep us from living fully in our truth (e.g., gaslighting, cultural conditioning, unconscious yet painfully limiting self-beliefs). Rooted in a newly emboldened sound that lets their breathtaking three-part harmonies shine more brightly than ever, the result is a body of work that radically expands our sense of possibility, ultimately illuminating a path toward greater peace and self-reliance even in the most chaotic of times.
Colin Bracewell
Colin Bracewell's true lyrics, combined with love and loss, create a unique and gravitating artistry. At only 21 years old, Colin Bracewell has established himself as a strong Minneapolis-based singer/songwriter, whose raw vocals and production reflect the sound of Bon Iver, James Blake, and more recently Hippo Campus.
Colin has been featured on The Current, Cities 97.1, Radio K, and other Midwest Radio stations. He was born in Ontario, Canada, and is currently living in the Twin Cities as a student at the University of Minnesota. In 2020, his folk-influenced single, "You're Fine", inspired by the intensity of the year's events, was featured on The Current - as "Song of the Day".
Bracewell's latest single, "Slopes", will draw you in from the first note and have you singing along. The indie-pop sound pushed him to visit other realms of creativity while still maintaining his authentic storytelling and heartfelt melodies.
