Though the space is still viewed as hallowed ground amongst rock historians, Pachyderm Studios down in Cannon Falls, Minnesota has weathered some tough times over the past few years. The property was once the recording site for albums by PJ Harvey, Soul Asylum, Live, and, most famously, Nirvana's In Utero, but in recent years the six-acre property went through some ownership struggles and eventually went into foreclosure, selling for a mere $370,000 last summer.

Luckily for music fans, the new owner is a studio veteran, John Kuker, who started his Seedy Underbelly studio legacy here in Minneapolis before moving to L.A. and later opening a sister studio in New York. Kuker won't be able to use the Pachyderm name -- the property's most recent owner, Matt Mueller, still has the rights to it -- but he intends to restore every other aspect of the legendary space. According to Chris Riemenschneider at the Star Tribune, Kuker tentatively plans to call the space Seedy Underbelly North, and plans to have the building remodeled and ready for regular business by this summer. Minneapolis sludge-rock duo Gay Witch Abortion will be the first band to test out the space with Kuker at the helm in a few weeks, when they head there to record their new album.
