The Suburbs undeniably kicked off the funk and new wave phase of Twin Cities music in the late '70s and early '80s, anchored by frontman Chan Poling's charisma and the fluid interaction between bandmembers Bruce Allen, Michael Halliday, Hugo Klaers and Blaine John Chaney. They released material on the extremely influential Twin/Tone Records, an institution that is now a hallmark of Minnesota music history.

The band is getting together for a show at First Avenue Saturday, May 19 with Sleeping In The Aviary in support, and Hugo stopped by for a little chat with Mary Lucia to catch-up on all things Suburbs-related.
