Friday Five: Doomtree go steampunk, Hardcore Crayons get lost, and more

Hey party people, hope you're ready for this jam-packed weekend. There's so much going on, artists and musicians are literally going to be performing around the clock. Here's a handful of brand-new local music videos (and one oldie) to get you in the mood:
1. Doomtree team up with Bo Hakala for 'Beacon' video
Something about Cecil Otter just screams "I wrote these lyrics between shifts at a factory in the 1940s," and he looks especially at home in Doomtree's vivid new tribute to steampunk. The video was directed by Bo Hakala, who you may remember from his work on independent film Stuck Between Stations, or even his time spent filming bands here at The Current.
2. Hardcore Crayons get lost in Minneapolis
Well, this certainly takes a dark turn. A game of hide-and-go-seek with an adorable little lady gets real, fast. If you like the soundtrack for this harrowing adventure, check out Hardcore Crayons tomorrow night at Hell's Kitchen. They'll be playing a CD-release show with support from Bloodnstuff and the Book of Right On.
3. MaLLy gets an intervention
We all know that too much rapping leads to cake addiction. At least that's what MaLLy's up against in this Intervention-inspired video, which features cameos from singer K. Raydio (who also performs on the track), all three members of The Chalice, Truth Be Told, and more.
4. Mankwe releases first single off new solo album
Mark this date on your calendar: July 17, the day Mankwe releases her first solo full-length. The talented and adventurous vocalist has collaborated with many artists in town (Big Quarters, Dessa), and it's high time she takes her turn in the spotlight. Here's the first single, "Henrietta Goes Electric."
5. Rebel Rebel: Rock for Pussy is going down tonight
In what has become a yearly tradition for me, I'll be heading down to First Avenue tonight for the David Bowie tribute show. For those who haven't been, it typically features a huge lineup of Minnesota musicians making cameos on different covers throughout the night. Plus, something like this will probably happen:
