What's New on The Current: MIA, Pretenders, Grandaddy and Haley Bonar

September 19, 2012
We love to bring new independent music to you, and each week, mid-day host Jade highlights the new tunes you'll hear on The Current.
M.I.A., "Go Off"
Now this is perhaps the last MIA album ever, so if you want to get your MIA action now is the time. Plus, it's probably the only time we'll play Skrillex on The Current.
Pretenders, "Holy Commotion"
Pretenders are back in action, Chrissie Hynde pulled in Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys for this one. He sprinkled his little Black Keys fairy dust all over it, it sounds very very cool.
Haley Bonar, "Hometown"
A song all about how, no matter how far you try and get away, your hometown is always with you. Sorry Haley!
Polica, "Melting Block"
It's a combination song about the vanity of fame and raising a child in a world where you have to be kinda hard -nbringing that together the only way that Polica can.
Radiohead, "True Love Waits"
Also, we've got one from Radiohead that's an old song, but finally found a home on their latest album, which is called 'A Moon Shaped Pool'. This song is really somber and maybe it's because Thom Yorke just separated from his wife, but there's a really heavy, beautiful vibe to it.
Grandaddy, "Way We Won't"
And the last song we're offering this week is Grandaddy "Way We Won't." Grandaddy, back after a decade, missing in action, where were they? Jason Lytle did a solo album, but now the gang is back together and it sounds like we might get a full album.
So check 'em out, all week long we're going to be playing these songs. It's what's new on The Current!
Jade hosts The Current from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
