9:30 Coffee Break: Iconic Women in Music
March 08, 2013
Happy International Women's Day! The first national Women's Day was observed in 1909 in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. In 1910, delegates (100 women from 17 countries) came together for a Women's Day conference and decided to put Women's Day into action with the idea of a strategy to promote equal rights, including suffrage, for women. The following year, on March, 18 1911, IWD was marked for the first time, by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
