Today in Music History: Honoring Jeff Buckley

History Highlight:
Today in 1997, the promising singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley, drowned after jumping into the Mississippi River for an impromptu swim. He was 30. The son of singer Tim Buckley (who had also died at a tragically young age), the younger Buckley had only released one proper album, Grace, which has since gone on to be an unqualified classic, and Buckley's legacy ended up being significant and far-reaching, with scores of later musicians sighting him as an influence and inspiration.
Also, Today In:
1971 - The Rolling Stones accomplished the rare feat of having both the #1 album, with Sticky Fingers, and #1 single, with "Brown Sugar," simultaneously in the US.
1976 - Diana Ross started a two week run No.1 on the US singles chart with "Love Hangover," her fourth US No.1.
1977 - Elvis walked off stage in the middle of a show in Baltimore. It was the first time in his 23-year career that he had done so except when legitimately ill. The end was near.
2009 - Phil Spector was jailed for at least 19 years for murdering an actress in 2003.
