The Chart Show: Daft Punk find themselves at #1

Daft Punk
In spite of the robotic persona they've cultivated for years, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo elected to make the latest Daft Punk album in a real studio, with real musicians.

Ya Hey! Daft Punk are back on top! They're back in the news too — or whatever the viral equivalent is: Stephen Colbert did an amazing dance routine to their other hit "Get Lucky," which also featured one of my favorite TV personalities, Charlie Rose!

Vampire Weekend lost the top spot but seem to have won over more fans with their Lollapalooza performance. Our intrepid duo, Program Director Jim McGuinn and Music Director David Safar, went to Chicago last weekend for Chicago's largest music festival. They reported on some of their favorite shows including New Order, Queens of the Stone Age, and Jake Bugg.

Speaking of Bugg, the 19 year-old Brit stopped by The Current studios for a session this week, and by all reports, "justified the buzz" with his sold-out Fine Line show, which probably explains the highest new entry with a song that is already his biggest UK hit.

Beck is back playing shows to good reports this week, too, and makes his first debut ever on our chart.

Another veteran band making their debut: Pearl Jam!? They're sounding spikier than ever, and they'll be part of the HOOJ Big Day Out festivals early in the New Year down under.

Sigur Rós are inducted to the Chart Show Hall of Fame with "Isjaki" while we lost Iron and Wine, Divine Fits, and Tame Impala.
