5 bands with names derived from movies
October 02, 2013

Jim from Minneapolis wrote in asking us to play a set of music from bands who got their names from movies. Jim realized that several bands were named after characters or titles from movies. We did a little research and noticed many bands were named after movies that we had no idea about.
Have some fun digging around and suggest songs by bands whose names were derived from movies.
Do you want the Coffee Break on the Road to swing by your work? Jill and Steve will be joined by Rhett Miller prior to his stint on Wits October 25. They will also have coffee and treats from Gigi's Cafe. To enter just write to: CoffeeBreak@theCurrent.org
Songs Played:
#1 The adaptation
Veruca Salt - "Seether"
Veruca Salt is the wealthy spoiled brat from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Movie Veruca didn't get the golden egg and music Veruca didn't get the golden popcorn.
#2 The foreign sci-fi film
Duran Duran - "Rio"
Durand Durand was a character in the 1968 film Barbella starring Jane Fonda. No exercise videos were made in the filming of this movie.
#3 The outlaw classic
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Whatever Happened to My Rock 'n' Roll (punk song)"
Marlon Brando's gang in the 1953 film The Wild One was, well, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Not to be confused with rival The Beetles.
#4 The musical
Babes in Toyland - "He's My Thing"
Dervied from one of the three film adaptations, Babes in Toyland can put on a black & white, technicolor or animated persona.
#5 The slasher screenplay
My Bloody Valentine - "Only Shallow"
Names that could have been in the running: Halloween, Friday the 13th and Candyman.
