It's hard to believe that it's already been six years since Dan Wilson's solo debut, Free Life, was released, but the former Semisonic and Trip Shakespeare frontman has crammed a lot of living into those six years. In that time he's moved to Los Angeles, picked up two Grammys, and co-wrote songs with everyone from Adele to John Legend, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Taylor Swift, Jim James, Pink, Dierks Bentley, and Nas.

In the midst of all that collaboration Wilson has also continued to nurture a side career as a solo artist, and this fall he's stepping back under the spotlight with a brand new song, "Disappearing," the first single off his next album. The track features harmonies from another Grammy award-winner, Sara Barielles, and will be released digitally November 5 and as a vinyl 7" on December 3, with a cover of Neil Young's "Out on the Weekend" as the B-side.

From its opening moments, it's clear that "Disappearing" is meant to be an intimate track. Wilson begins the song by quietly counting off "1, 2, 3, 4," and almost whispers the first few lines, his voice as tender and sweet as ever.

"'Disappearing' feels like a perfect introduction to the album," Wilson says. “After these past years of intense collaboration, I wanted to hear what the music in my own head sounded like. So I went into hiding for several months and emerged with more lonesome and personal-sounding music than I've made in a long time. I can't wait for people to hear the record."

Dan Wilson's new solo album is due out in the spring of 2014.
