MPR Movie Maven and Cube Critic Stephanie Curtis joins Jill Riley and Jade to talk about a new historical drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender.

The film is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup, a free man living in New York in the 1800s who is kidnapped into slavery. A new identity is imposed on Northrup, and he spends the next dozen years in forced labor.

Stephanie suggests that 12 Years a Slave may well be the movie of the year, describing it as "a masterpiece." The film is rated R for violence and cruelty, and for some sexuality. 12 Years a Slave is screening at the Landmark Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis.

MPR's Movie Maven, Stephanie Curtis, joins The Current's Morning Show to talk about films every Friday at 8:30 a.m.
