The Sporting Life with Michael Rand: College Tournaments

March 24, 2014

Women's Gophers holding NCAA title award
Minnesota Gophers women's hockey team in happier times, when they won the NCAA championship in 2013.

Every Monday at 8:30am StarTribune sports writer Michael Rand stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Sports.

Today Michael Rand chatted with The Morning Show's Jill Riley and Steve Seel about:

1) March Madness with the NCAA basketball tournament has been everything advertised so far with upsets and buzzer-beaters galore. Meanwhile, both the U of M men and women are still playing in the lesser NIT after winning two games each.

2) On the subject of hockey: the Gophers women fell short of their third national title, losing 5-4 to Clarkson on Sunday in the championship game. The men embark on their quest for a championship next weekend at Xcel Energy Center as the no. 1 overall seed.

3) One week from the start of the regular season, the Twins look like a hot mess. And they have nobody to blame but themselves.
