Today the annual Twin Cities Pride festival released its 2014 music lineup—and there will be a lot of music to hear over the weekend of June 28-29. Pop star Betty Who, country singer Steve Grand, pop/Motown/disco legend Thelma Houston, and R&B icon Thea Austin will hit Loring Park for the Pride in Concert show at 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 28. Tickets for that headlining show are $10; in addition, over 80 local and regional artists will perform for free throughout the course of the weekend at the four stages: Loring, Rainbow, Stonewall, and Power to the People.

The four headliners span a variety of genres and backgrounds. Betty Who is an emerging Australian-born singer who topped dance charts with her 2012 debut single “Somebody Loves You” and hit number one on the iTunes pop chart with her 2014 EP Slow Dancing. Steve Grand garnered attention with last year's self-funded music video, “All-American Boy,” which generated more than 1.5 million views within its first two weeks. As one of country music’s first openly gay stars, he serves as an advocate for the equality movement.

Unlike Who and Grand, Thelma Houston is no newcomer to the music scene: she's been performing for over 50 years. Her hits include "Don't Leave Me This Way" (1976), which became a hit again as a dance remix in 1995; her 1984 album Qualifying Heat featured collaborations with superstar Minnesota producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Thea Austin is a European favorite who's known for her 2001 dance hit with Chris Cox and DJ Irene, “I’m Addicted (You're the Worst Thing for Me).”

Among the local artists playing free sets throughout the weekend are Mayda, Bomba de Luz, Southside Desire, K.Raydio, Katy Vernon, Desdamona, Lioness, Toki Wright, and Heidi Barton Stink. Dance and spoken word performances will also be part of the mix.

2014 marks the 42nd year for the Twin Cities Pride festival, one of the biggest GLBT pride celebrations in the country each year. In addition to the music, the festival will feature a parade, an art show, and plenty of food and drink. The organization describes its mission as being to "create experiences that bring the greater GLBT community together to commemorate our diverse heritage, foster inclusion, educate and create awareness of issues, and celebrate achievements in equality."
