Cube Critic: 'Obvious Child', 'The Clock'

MPR News Arts Reporter and Cube Critic Euan Kerr joins Steve Seel and Jill Riley to talk about a new film he describes as an alt-rom-com, as well as an exclusive screening of a film at Walker Art Center during Northern Spark 2014.
Obvious Child is a new film starring Jenny Slate (Saturday Night Live). Slate plays Donna Stern, a woman living in hipster Brooklyn who becomes pregnant and must face the situation, as well as the question of whether or not she should tell the young man with whom she had a fling. Stern is also a stand-up comedian who works her circumstances into her comedy act.
Euan calls Obvious Child an "alt-rom-com," and says that it is a fascinating film. He adds that some people will love it, others may find it distasteful. And in a fun local tie, an alumnus of St. Paul Central High School — recognized by Euan — appears in the film as an extra. Listen to Euan's full review by clicking the audio player above.
Directed by Gillian Robespierre, Obvious Child is rated R and is screening at the Landmark Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis.
Euan also describes The Clock, a film by Christian Marclay that stitches together tens of thousands of film clips featuring time pieces, creating a 24-hour film that examines how Hollywood looks at time and also how it looks at us. The Clock will screen at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis during Northern Spark 2014.
MPR's Movie Maven, Stephanie Curtis, joins The Current's Morning Show to talk about films every Friday at 8:30 a.m.
