Friday Five: The Ericksons, Tickle Torture, and more new Minnesota music videos

by Andrea Swensson

August 29, 2014

I have a bunch of goodies for you today, including some brand-new music from sister duo the Ericksons and Tickle Torture, two dramatically different but equally talented acts who have albums coming out next month. There's also a cut from rapper Longshot, a new track from the rock band the Persian Leaps, and a glimpse at a promising new indie-folk group Coastal Cabins. Just another week in the busy Minnesota music scene...

The Ericksons

There's a lot to love about this new video from the Ericksons—those bright green corn fields, those buoyant Postal Service beats, and of course those enchanting interwoven harmonies that only two sisters can sing so convincingly. "My Love" is the first single off of the Ericksons' new Sean Carey co-produced album, Bring Me Home, which they recorded at Justin Vernon's April Base studio by ace engineer Beau Sorenson. Find it in stores September 30.

The Persian Leaps

Speaking of bands standing around in fields, this new video from post-rockers the Persian Leaps perfectly captures a summer sunset out on the prairie. This track "Pretty Boy" will appear on their Drive Drive Delay EP, out next month.

Tickle Torture

Heads up: This video is probably not safe for work. It features scantily clad men, glittery thongs, glittery writhing, and did I mention glitter? But do what you gotta do—maybe tilt the screen away from the hallway or open a new tab or something—because you're going to want to hear this track. Elliott Kozel is quickly becoming one of the most beguiling, intriguing pop artists in the Twin Cities, and I can't wait for his new EP Spectrophilia to drop on Sept. 6.

Longshot

I already posted a couple of videos from the latest Lights and a Backdrop season in last week's Friday Five, but I couldn't resist squeezing in one more this week because this beat is so dang catchy. Longshot has been busy releasing a weekly series of new tracks with the producer TGIK that will wrap up on Sept. 15; catch up with all his latest music on Soundcloud.

Coastal Cabins

Indie-folk duo Coastal Cabins is a new project from Luther College students Robert Marston and Jack Ross, and they already have an impressive little self-titled EP to their name. Check out more from the project here.
