Batteryboy and friends to return for Southern Theater Sessions: Act II

Local indie-folk band batteryboy’s Southern Theater Sessions will return for two nights this week to the Southern Theater in Minneapolis.

The Southern Theater Sessions: Act II, as these shows are being billed, will bring together a diverse array of local talent, including Alan Sparhawk’s Murder of Crows project, batteryboy (both nights), and art rock trio Alpha Consumer, whose new album Meat was released in June. The sessions will take place tonight and tomorrow.

The Southern Theater Sessions began earlier this year with a similar set of shows in February. The series is the brainchild of batteryboy’s Cobey Rouse, who sought to “start creating events that would help him take better control of batteryboy’s fate, and to provide a unique and beneficial experience for other artists as well,” according to the event’s press release.

The series's first run was popular and well-reviewed. "WOW!" wrote Becca Martin in Rift Magazine. "The Southern Sessions were very special." Martin explained how the series cultivated community: "People mingled in the common area, excited to join in the 'be here now' of it. A more relaxed vibe than your local hipster club, it seemed to spread to the artists who regaled the audience with charming stories."
