When Pieta Brown first drove down the long tree-filled lane to April Base studio in Wisconsin, she knew she had found a good home to record her next record. Not only did the woodsy vibe work well for her, but her choice in musicians helped, too. Her partner Bo Ramsey was part of the project, as were JT Bates and Michael Rossetto, members of her regular band.

April Base is Justin Vernon's (Bon Iver) studio, and he added vocal harmonies on a few songs as well. Pieta also enlisted the help of Amos Lee who co-wrote one of the songs and sings on it, too.

Pieta released the album, Paradise Outlaw, on Sept. 30, and her local CD release show is Friday, Oct. 10, at the Dakota in Minneapolis. She and Bo Ramsey stopped by the Radio Heartland studio to chat and to play a few tunes from the record. Pieta is joined by Bo Ramsey on electric guitar.
