Today in 1979, The Blues Brothers (Belushi and Aykroyd) annoyed some purists and critics with their slightly tongue-in-cheek renditions of classic soul songs. Ironically, the Brothers' biggest supporters were the artists who had recorded the songs originally. Briefcase Full Of Blues by The Blues Brothers went to #1 and achieved Platinum status on this day.

1959 - "It Doesn't Matter Any More" b/w "Raining in My Heart," Buddy Holly's final single before his untimely demise, was released. The former was one of the few he recorded that he didn't write; Paul Anka was the author.
