Ahead of her first headlining Twin Cities gig at the Triple Rock Social Club, Seinabo Sey (pronounced SAY-na-bo See) stopped by The Current to chat with host Jill Riley and to perform tracks off her debut EP For Madeline live in-studio.

With one EP to her name, Seinabo Sey has already made waves in both her home country of Sweden and in the States. Her show at Le Pouissan Rouge earlier this week was well-received by the New York Times applauding her "fiery odes" with a ("flattering," Sey tells Riley) comparison to Adele to boot.

The Swedish 24-year-old has been involved with music her entire life. Artists like Erykah Badu to Lauryn Hill and Destiny's Child have all influenced Sey's songwriting. But perhaps it was Sey's father who planted her roots in performing. Before studying music in Sweden, Seinabo spent time in his native Gambia where he practiced and was in and around recording studios as early as age 10.

Fans are already eager for more music from Seinabo Sey. The follow-up to For Madeline (dedicated to her mother who turned 50 years old last year), is in the works, and the full-length is expected to release in the next few months. Magnus Lindehall, who worked with her on many of the tracks that appear on the EP, will co-produce the album.
