Weekend Arts Roundup: Dance, Theater, Literature

MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Steve Seel and Jill Riley to talk about good stuff happening this weekend in dance, theater and literature.
Motirô — Contempo Physical Dance brings this energetic program to the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in Minneapolis. Its title is derived from a Brazilian indigenous word connoting people coming together to build something, which suits its choreography that fuses African, Brazilian and contemporary dance styles. Shows run Friday, Jan. 30, to Sunday, Feb. 1.
Love and Information — Caryl Churchill's play features all sorts of vignettes; all told, 57 micro-scenes in one evening; some are as short as 30 seconds, yet all explore our search for meaning and quest for connection. Love and Information is presented by Frank Theatre Company and stages at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis from Jan. 30 to Feb. 22.
Claudia Rankine — Friday night at Loft Literary Center,> Claudia Rankine will give a reading. Rankine is the author/poet of Citizen: An American Lyric, a book of stories, poems, memories and artwork that has become a touchstone for the dialogue around race and the idea of a "post-racial" United States. Citizen has been nominated for aNational Book Award and is published by Graywolf Press. The reading happens Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. There is a suggested donation of $5.
