Friday Five: Taggart and Rosewood, the Velveteens, and more new Minnesota music

This week's Friday Five kicks off with a Local Show exclusive: the first live footage of a new collaboration between Gayngs founders Zach Coulter and Ryan Olson, who came by our offices to turn the whole idea of an in-studio on its head...
Taggart and Rosewood
Dude. Duuuuuude. Although this footage of Taggart and Rosewood was filmed right here in MPR's Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser studio by our resident photographer Nate Ryan, it doesn't look anything like our typical in-studio videos. What a difference a few well-placed spotlights, some fog machines, a cabaret table, and some white mesh masks can make, huh? (And some very intentional and cool color correcting by Nate; note that only the band's signature colors of black, white, and pink are used.)
Taggart and Rosewood, which is led by Zach Coulter and Ryan Olson with live support from Drew Christopherson and Andrew Broder, visited our studios to record three songs and an interview with David Campbell for the Local Show. This is the first music and first video they've released since their now-infamous Drone Boning (NSFW) visuals set the internet on fire last fall, and it does not disappoint.
The Velveteens
If Best Coast actually had chill, it might sound something like this Minneapolis garage-pop trio. Don't sleep on their debut full-length, Sun's Up, which was recorded by Neil Weir at Old Blackberry Way and released at the tail end of last year.

Har-di-Har
As noted recently by MinnPost's Jim Walsh, Minnesota bands have been busy creating submissions for NPR Music's Tiny Desk contest, which asked underground bands to submit auditions for their for their viral video series. Among the standouts was St. Paul synth and drum duo Har-di-Har, who say have a new full-length album in the works now.
Aero Flynn
A new band formed by old friends, Eau Claire's Aero Flynn assembled a dream team to record this live version of their debut single, "Dk/Pi." Frontman Josh Scott is joined by Solid Gold's Adam Hurlburt, Bon Iver's Mike Noyce, Ben Lester (S. Carey, Field Report, the Ericksons), and brothers Jake and Jeremy Hanson in this Dan Huiting-directed video; the debut album from Aero Flynn is due out March 3.
