Every Monday at 8:30am StarTribune sports writer Michael Rand stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Sports.

Today, Michael discusses these sports topics:

  1. What in the world is going on with the local pro teams? The Wild looked dead in the water 10 days ago, but a five-game winning streak has them back in the playoff hunt. And the Wolves have a three-game winning streak after being awful for so much of the season.

  1. Sad news from the world of sports: legendary former North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith died over the weekend. "The greatest coaches aren't always the greatest role models," Rand says, "but Dean Smith seems like one of those people who outside his profession, was still a tremendous person."
