Throbbing Hive with Wits' John Moe: Superfish!
February 24, 2015

Every Tuesday at 7:30am Wits host John Moe stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Technology.
This week, John Moe chatted with The Morning Show's Steve Seel and Jill Riley about a Superfish that is anything but superficial. Here's what John discussed:
Superfish. Superfish. She's super fishy — yow.
If you have a Lenovo PC, you might want to get it checked out. Lenovo is apologizing for and issuing a fix for a gaping security flaw in some adware. Superfish is an ad-serving bit of software that serves up advertisements in search results. The problem is, Superfish can serve as a portal for third parties to read your email, harvest data and do all kinds of nasty things. Lenovo is both apologizing and getting sued. If you have a Lenovo computer, you will want to go online and check that out.
Tom's Diner, spooky ghost version
A guy named Ryan Maguire is collecting the data that gets lost when an MP3 is compressed, and he's releasing that lost data on its own. In this case, he took Suzanne Vega's ode to passively spying at a restaurant, "Tom's Diner." The results are eerie, as is the video he put with it, based on the data lost during the compression of the original music video.
John Moe hosts Wits at the Fitzgerald Theater. Check out video, photos and archived audio from previous shows and buy tickets for the current season at the Wits page. He also hosts the Home Dunk podcast from Infinite Guest.
