Yesterday, Rolling Stone magazine published its list of the 25 best songs about the South. Inspired by the cold winter, the magazine's editors wanted to celebrate "the best of the old, sweet songs" that remind them of the spirit of the Southern states.

But as the snow is falling in the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota this morning, we thought we'd turn Rolling Stone's idea on its head and celebrate songs that capture the spirit of the North. There are lots of great songs that describe or even name-check northern places, or simply use the word "north" in the lyrics.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs about the North do you want to hear? Send us your requests.

Songs Played

Bob Dylan - "Girl From the North Country"

JD McPherson - "North Side Gal"

The Replacements - "Skyway"
