9:30 Coffee Break: Work Songs

Last night at the Varsity Theater, The Current and the Citizens League hosted the latest Policy and a Pint, titled "May the Workforce Be with You." In fact, Sean Kershaw from the Citizens League was in our studio yesterday morning to talk about it.

Among the topics discussed were the types of jobs and workplaces employees find appealing, and the ways companies and industries in Minnesota plan to attract and retain a strong workforce over the coming decades. Certainly those are interesting and important subjects — and they also reminded us that there are a lot of songs about work.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs about work, working or the work experience do you want to hear? Tell us your requests.

Songs Played

St. Vincent - "Actor Out of Work"
Elvis Costello - "Welcome to the Working Week"
Dolly Parton - "9 to 5"
Devo - "Working in the Coal Mine"
Kate Bush - "This Woman's Work"
Rush - "Working Man"
Drive-By Truckers - "Working This Job"

Do you deserve a Coffee Break? We at The Current's Morning Show think you do, and we want to bring treats from Gigi's Café to your workplace. Let us know why you'd like a Coffee Break.
