What an amazing Record Store Day weekend it was: Saturday saw Jill and Jade tour a number of Twin Cities record shops before hosting a screening of Empire Records at the Fitzgerald Theater; and Sunday culminated in Prince hosting a special concert for record-store employees at his Paisley Park studio, attended by our own reporter Andrea Swensson.

In record shops in Minnesota and elsewhere on Saturday, one could find all kinds of special releases, not to mention bins of rarities, collectibles, and new and used gems. At one record shop Jill and Jade visited on Saturday, they came across a large selection of 45s being sold alongside purpose-built cases for storing 45 RPM vinyls.

And that got us thinking about how there are a lot of great songs out there that were never part of albums. These standalone singles were released on their own or sometimes as an understated B-side to an album track; either way, these little-songs-that-could became cherished classics without the trappings of a full album to prop them up.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs that were released as singles without albums do you want to hear? Tell us your requests.

Songs Played

Pink Floyd - "Arnold Layne"
Pearl Jam - "Yellow Ledbetter"
Joy Division - "Love With Tear Us Apart"
The Beatles - "Rain"
