Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine's Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl brings her extensive knowledge of the Midwest dining scene to Eating and Drinking.

Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl stops by The Current's Morning Show to talk about some of the distilleries in Northern Minnesota. "It's almost a boom," she says of the burgeoning industry. "We now know that the Surly Bill got passed, and people can now have distilleries — that was tucked in [to the legislation], so we've had this micro-distillery boom."

Here are the distilleries Dara describes on today's show:

Far North Spirits — Hallock, Minn.

Vikre Distillery — Duluth, Minn.

Will the expansion of distilleries in Minnesota continue? "The brewery thing is going to boom bigger," Dara speculates, "but I think we're going to have a slow, steady march [with distilleries]. People have been wanting to drink less but drink better for 20 years now … people want something special and unique."

Dara Moskowitz-Grumdahl, veteran Twin Cities food and dining authority, is a five-time James Beard Award-Winning food writer who is also at Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine and author of Drink This: Wine Made Simple.
