9:30 Coffee Break: Tools

by Jill Riley and Sean McPherson

April 30, 2015

Earlier today, we shared news that a new kind of library is opening in Minneapolis — but instead of books, this library lends tools. The Northeast Minneapolis Tool Library will allow residents to check out items like power saws, hammers, hedge trimmers, pipe wrenches, painting supplies, etc., for work on home-maintenance projects.

The mention of so many tools reminded us that there are a lot of songs that name-check tools of all kinds. We're not talking about the band, Tool, but about songs that include mention of various helpful implements in the lyrics.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that mention some kind of tool in the lyrics? Send us your requests.

Songs Played

Trip Shakespeare "Toolmaster of Brainerd"
The Beatles "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"
Foo Fighters "Monkey Wrench"
The Joy Formidable "This Ladder is Ours"
Peter Gabriel "Sledgehammer"
Doomtree "Bolt Cutter"
