Friday Five: Mary Bue, Greg Grease, Bad Bad Hats, and more new Minnesota music videos

by Andrea Swensson

May 22, 2015

Happy Friday! The sun is out, the weekend is packed with all kinds of outdoor fun (including the Memory Lanes Block Party and the just-sold-out Soundset), and the gears are starting to crank in the local music scene as everyone gets ready for another busy summer. Why not celebrate our good fortune with some hot-off-the-presses new music videos?

Mary Bue's 'Cherubum'

Duluth singer-songwriter Mary Bue takes a somewhat unsettling concept from the tarot deck—the child angels, a.k.a. "cherubs," who keep a record of your love life history—and turns it into a rom-com in her new video for "Cheribum." She'll be performing at the Eric Swanson benefit on May 30th at Sacred Heart in Duluth, and will be back in the Twin Cities on June 25 to play the Mad Ripple Hootenanny at Harriet Brewing.

Greg Grease's work

Rapper Greg Grease explores the Forced to Work half of his new album's title, Born to Lurk Forced to Work, in the thought-provoking new video for "Work Song."

Bad Bad Hats' big break

Minneapolis rock trio Bad Bad Hats made a big splash this week when they debuted their new single on Fader. If this track is any indication, their debut full-length, Psychic Reader, is going to be fierce. We'll find out for certain when it's released on July 17.

PaviElle's close-up

The latest episode of tpt's Lowertown Line takes a deep dive into the life and artistry of PaviElle, who opens up about her musical upbringing, her connection to the Rondo neighborhood, the devastating loss of her parents, and how she funnels that pain into her writing. Watch the whole entire thing. You won't regret it.

Gabe Douglas's journey

The 4onthefloor frontman takes a walk in the woods and performs a new song, "Oathbreaker," for MN Original. Find it on his band's new album, All In, which the 4onthefloor will be celebrating tonight with a big show in First Avenue's Mainroom.
