MPR News Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jill Riley and Sean McPherson to talk about a number of events this weekend involving music and dance.

For the Love — Happening July 12, For the Love is a 12-hour, free, all-ages hip-hop festival in Lowertown featuring a range of activities, including 15 acts performing on an outdoor stage on the steps of Union Depot. Meanwhile, inside Bedlam Theatre, eight DJs will spin hour-long sets, starting at 2 p.m. And the Shorty Stage is dedicated to kids, where participatory classes will showcase the art of the four elements of hip hop: emceeing, dancing, beatboxing and graffiti. Metro Transit is sponsoring free rides to the festival.

Momentum: New Dance Works — This annual event, presented by the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in partnership with the Walker Art Center and the Southern Theater, is about showcasing emerging choreographers and getting them onstage to show their latest work. Performances run July 9 to July 18 at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis.

DeMayda'd — This Friday and Saturday, local multi-instrumentalist, artist and producer Mayda has put together this one-woman concert show. It's her telling her own story and performing music and dance at the same time. Directed by Mu Performing Arts' Randy Reyes, this show is happening at the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis on July 10 and 11.
