Throbbing Hive with John Moe: Web series to watch
August 11, 2015

Every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., John Moe stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Technology.
This week, John Moe stopped by The Current's Morning Show to talk to Jill Riley and Sean McPherson about a new Web series from Amy Poehler and about a Flash-based cartoon series that prepares for the post-Flash universe.
New Web series from Amy Poehler and Megan Amran
Amy Poehler's media organization, Smart Girls, encourages girls to be empowered and to be as smart as they are. A new venture under the Smart Girls umbrella is a Web series called Experimenting with Megan Amran. Amran is a well-known Twitter user and a former writer on Parks and Recreation. John compares the premise to Stephen Colbert's former show, where the ostensibly vapid host drives the program. "It's a good way of getting around to teaching people about science and introducing the world to some really fascinating women in science," John says.
If Homestar says Flash is dead, it must be dead.
Homestar Runner and Strongbad is a long-running, Flash-based cartoon series about these odd inhabitants of a mythical world going about their business. It runs on Flash, so you can't just skip ahead to the part you want to watch; you can't skip ahead or pause it. "Everybody is starting to drop support for Flash because Flash as a program is big, and heavy and sucks and crashes all the time and is terrible," John says.
Google and Mozilla are both planning to drop support for Flash. The writing is on the wall, so there's a new cartoon about how Homestar Runner and Strongbad deal with Flash going away.
John Moe co-hosts the podcast Conversation Parade (with Open Mike Eagle) and he also hosts the Home Dunk podcast, both from Infinite Guest.
