Miguel concert moved from First Avenue to State Theatre

by Jay Gabler

August 14, 2015

Miguel's sold-out Saturday night show at First Avenue's Mainroom has been moved to the State Theatre, as inspections and repairs continue in the wake of a partial ceiling collapse in the Mainroom on Wednesday night. "All purchased tickets for the Mainroom show will be honored at the State Theatre show," according to First Avenue's website. With the move to a larger venue, a limited number of additional tickets have been made available.

The status of the Miguel show had been one of the big question marks regarding the timetable for the reopening of the venue, which has been closed since the incident occurred. Work on repairs and assessment began early yesterday morning.

According to the Star Tribune, the entire ceiling—the original ceiling installed when the venue was built in 1936 as a bus depot—will need to be demolished before the Mainroom can reopen, and the precise reason for the collapse may never be fully understood.

First Avenue staff have confirmed that the 7th Street Entry will reopen on Saturday, though the Record Room will remain closed as long as Mainroom repairs continue. The next scheduled Mainroom show is the Wicked City film premiere party, a week from tonight. The Depot Tavern is open as of late Friday afternoon.

This activity is made possible in part by the Minnesota Legacy Amendment’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
