9:30 Coffee Break: Spoken-Word Sections by Jill Riley, Sean McPherson September 14, 2015 the currents morning show 930 coffee break Microphone (Staffan Vilcans - CC BY-SA 2.0) Today's Coffee Break theme was suggested by Lisa, a listener from Edina, Minn. Lisa wrote to us to say she'd like to hear "songs where the singers stop and talk in the middle." Sometimes a singer (or singers) will opt for spoken word to advance the story or the message of a song; many times it's in the bridge, occasionally it's in an intro and sometimes it's just a few spoken words sprinkled in the song. Using Lisa's suggestion, let's put together a playlist of tunes that use this technique. So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that have a spoken-word section? Send us your requests. And thank you, Lisa, for the suggestion! Songs Played Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros "Home" Elvis Presley "Are You Lonesome Tonight" Henry Rollins Band "Liar" Big Bopper "Chantilly Lace" Weezer "Beverly Hills" Johnny Cash "The Man Comes Around" Do you deserve a Coffee Break?
