Earlier this week, a federal judge in Los Angeles decided that music publisher Warner/Chappell never had the right to charge for the use of the "Happy Birthday To You" song. Judge George H. King ruled that a copyright filed by the Summy Company in 1935 granted only the rights to specific piano arrangements of the music, not the actual song. As a result, the song can now be performed by anyone, royalty free.

Certainly "Happy Birthday to You" is a beloved and well-known tune. To commemorate this landmark ruling, let's explore other songs that mention "birthday" — maybe it's a happy birthday wish, or maybe it's just a passing reference to a birthday.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that mention "birthday"? Send us your requests.

Songs Played

The Tune Weavers "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby"
Low "On My Own"
Altered Images "Happy Birthday"
The Beatles "Birthday"
The Crests "16 Candles"
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five "The Birthday Party"
The Sugarcubes "Birthday"
