Netflix knows when you'll start bingeing on a show
"There was a study done by Netflix on when people get hooked on a series," John explains. "They measured at what episode for a bunch of different series it took for someone to have the hooks from that show placed in them and make them want to watch everything in the series."
The study revealed at exactly which episode of a given series viewers become hooked to the show. "There's some science to it," John says. "For Breaking Bad, it's episode two. Sons of Anarchy, episode two. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, episode four; Mad Men, episode six. & hellip; I am really surprised no TV show has cracked the code of how to get people hooked after one episode."
For Netflix, John adds, the study supports the content producer and distributor's plan to release all program episodes at once.
CNN will stream Democratic debate in virtual reality
CNN has announced it will stream the Oct. 13 Democratic Presidential debate in virtual reality. "You'll need a Samsung Gear VR headset, which is now going for $99, and then you can have what will feel like a front-row seat at the Democratic debate," John says.
"To me, this brings up the question of the technology that's available and the technology that we really want," John muses. "Will we look back and say, 'I remember the first time we had VR Presidential debates, and now it's a thing everybody does, thanks to the helmets we have at home'?"
The technological advancement does stir comparisons to the historic, televised 1960 debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Yet with virtual reality, John wonders, "How much of the pores of these people's faces do we really want to inspect?"
Tangentially related to Presidential debates is the release of John's new book, The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody. "It's very topical, and I think it's very silly. It's non-partisan, hopefully it's funny, it's not cruel," John says. "And it name-drops Foghat, Joe Walsh and John Stamos."
John Moe co-hosts the podcast Conversation Parade (with Open Mike Eagle) from Infinite Guest. He is also the author of the book, The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody.
