Eating and Drinking with Solo Vino's Chuck Kanski: Spanish Wines
October 14, 2015

Owner of full service wine shop, Solo Vino, and wine expert for Minnesota Monthly's New Vintage, Chuck Kanski joins the Current's Morning Show to talk about wine trends in Minnesota and around the world.
With cooler weather, people's tastes shift to red wines. Wine expert Chuck Kanski visits The Current's Morning Show to talk about wines from Spain's winemaking region, Rioja.
"It's the most internationally recognized winemaking region in Spain," Chuck says. "Some of the best value for bottled, mature wines than any other place making wine on the planet.
Chuck recommends wines from Rioja because, not only does it taste good, it is also a good value for a wine that is four or five years old. "Wine needs time. When a wine is young, it's very hard, it's very harsh," Chuck says. "When a wine matures, it harmonizes, it softens. For us, to go back in time and drink a four- or five-year-old Rioja for $14 or $15, that's not bad at all."
This week, Chuck brought in a 2011 Bodegas Muriel Crianza Rioja. "I really, really like this wine," Chuck says. "Sometimes they'll say a wine will speak to you. There are occasions when a wine just begs for your attention. This is what happened to me with this Bodegas Muriel."
