Throbbing Hive with John Moe: Videos to Make You Laugh
October 20, 2015

Every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., John Moe stops into the Morning Show to share the latest news in Technology.
"We try to bring you important technology news … this is not that," says John Moe about this week's visit to The Current's Morning Show. "This week on the Throbbing Hive, it's just all about videos that will make you laugh."
Here's what John has to share with Jill Riley and Sean McPherson — and with you.
Fifteen minutes of lost Monty Python and the Holy Grail animation is available on YouTube, with Terry Gilliam commentary
A 40th anniversary Blu-ray and DVD of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is being released this year. "Classic movie, it holds up well," John Moe says. "It's hard for me to judge the society impact of Monty Python and the Holy Grail because I'm a comedy nerd, and among comedy nerds, it is a holy grail of films."
As a special feature in the Blu-ray anniversary edition, there is a 14-minute of previously unseen animation by Monty Python troupe member (and Minnesota native) Terry Gilliam, whose stop-motion animations were used interstitially in the film as well as on the Monty Python's Flying Circus television show. "You get lots and lots of butts," John says. "There's always lots of butts when you get into the Monty Python animation as well as paper-cut mediaeval figures just tramping around."
Audio includes amusing commentary by Gilliam with input by John Cleese.
John says the animation clip is extraneous and doesn't add to the story at all, but if you're a Python completist, "this is a lot of fun to check out."
New video from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is a British series of short musical horror comedy viral videos, created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling. "It is my favorite series on the Internet," John says.
The puppet-based series features characters such as Yellow Guy, Red Guy and Bird Guy. Each of the videos has a theme, teaching about topics such as creativity, love and technology, but these are no typical educational videos. "It very much descends into chaos and grotesquery," John explains. "It is for adults and kids maybe 13 and up."
The latest Don't Hug Me I'm Scared video is about food and nutritional health:
John Moe is the host of Wits and he also co-hosts the podcast Conversation Parade (with Open Mike Eagle) from Infinite Guest.
