November 2 is All Souls' Day, which, for many Christian religions, is a day of reflection and prayer to remember those who have died, particularly one's relatives and friends. All Souls' Day is associated with All Saints Day on Nov. 1, and its vigil, All Hallows Eve — more widely known by its shortened name, Halloween — on Oct. 31.

The concept of a soul as the essence of a living thing extends to many traditions, and it's certainly a widely referenced concept in music. Many songwriters mention "soul" in lyrics, and of course, there's even a genre of music called soul.

So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that mention "soul"? Send us your requests. And if your request is a soul song that mentions "soul," well … extra credit to you.

Thanks to Lanky, a listener in New York, for suggesting this theme!

They Might be Giants "Birdhouse In Your Soul"
