Louisville, Ky., singer-songwriter Joan Shelley has had a busy 12 months. She released a solo album called Electric Ursa in the fall of 2014. Then her trio, Maiden Radio, released a recording last spring. This past September, Shelley came out with another solo album, this one produced by her longtime friend and collaborator, Daniel Martin Moore.

Listening to her sing, you'd think she's from a small village in England and that these songs are centuries old. But in reality, the original songs were mostly composed while Shelley was spending time on an island off the coast of Greece — and it shows. NPR Music reviewer Will Hermes called this collection of songs "one of the most beautiful releases of the year."

Joan Shelley stopped by the Radio Heartland studio with her guitar to chat and tp play some songs from her new record, Over And Even.
