Eating and Drinking with Solo Vino's Chuck Kanski: Bubbles

Owner of full service wine shop, Solo Vino, and wine expert for Minnesota Monthly's New Vintage, Chuck Kanski joins the Current's Morning Show to talk about wine trends in Minnesota and around the world.
As New Years Eve is upon us, Chuck Kanski stopped by the studios to talk all things bubbly.
Chuck says the go-to region for champagne to be made is France. "If you're grabbing something from Italy, chances are it's a prosecco," he says. "In Spain the most common product is a cava."
When it comes to the price of champagne, Chuck says, it all comes down to the price of land. "When you are a new outfit or current outfit that's expanding and paying $1-1.1 million per acre, you've got a spreadsheet and you've got to make it balance," he says. And thus, most champagnes start around $35-40 and go up from there.
If you want to bring a great bottle to a party, in addition to the prosecco, Chuck recommends a cava wine, which starts at around $8-9 and peaks out at around $30. For a relatively low price, he says, "you're getting the most premium of what the Twin Cities offers".
