Jeff Kamin: The 2016 Book-et List
January 13, 2016

Jade and Sean were joined by Jeff Kamin, moderator of Books & Bars and producer of MPR events to talk about his 2016 "Book-et List".
For those that would like to ramp up their reading in 2016, Jeff Kamin joined Jade and Sean in the studio to share tips for falling back in love with reading and the titles that are on his 2016 "Book-et List".
(You know, a "book-et list". Like a bucket list – a list of books you want to read before you die.)
Jeff said the first thing you have to do to get back into reading is find a book you're truly interested in reading. Then, make it a daily part of life.
"You can't look at it as an assignment or someone forcing you to do something," he said. "Find some time – maybe it's at lunch, maybe you can do it before you go to bed."
Jeff said if you read 20-30 minutes a day, you could easily read one book a month, as the average audio book is less than 15 hours.
"If you want to challenge yourself and do more, maybe try to double that," he said.
At the top of Jeff's "Book-et List" this year is "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace.
"It's something that I will finish at some point but that I'm afraid to take on again because if I don't do it a third time then I'll really feel like I've failed," he said.
Also included on his list are Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, more Charles Dickens and more non-fiction.
"Whatever your personal book-it list is, that's a great place to start," he said.
Jeff Kamin is the host of Books & Bars. They meet the first Tuesday of every month at the Happy Gnome in St. Paul and the second Tuesday at Indeed in Minneapolis. (And you don't need to even read the books to enjoy the event.)
