Coffee Break: Murder ballads
May 19, 2016

For today's Vinyl Tap, Brian brought in The Raconteurs' "Carolina Drama" which tells the very detailed and gory tale of a dysfunctional family in South Carolina.
And that's just what murder ballads do - tell the tale of events that describe or lead up to a murder. Some songs sing from the perspective of the murderer to portray the murderer in a sympathetic light, other songs have the narrative from the point of view of the victim. And some murder ballads simply tell the story as an objective third party.
For today's Coffee Break, let's get a little creepy and listen to only murder ballads.
Songs played
Delia's Gone - Johnny Cash
Barton Hollow - The Civil Wars
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
The Rake's Song - The Decemberists
The Ballad Of Hollis Brown - Bob Dylan
El Paso - Marty Robbins
Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine - The Killers
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - Vicki Lawrence
