Coffee Break: Songs for Muhammad Ali
by Anna Reed
June 06, 2016

On Friday we lost iconic three-time world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali at 74 from a respiratory issue. Regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sporting figures of the 20th century, Ali was famous for his mantra, "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."
Boxing is how Ali initially gained fame, but his impact was felt outside the sports world as he became a hero to people who never even saw him box. He took on a new name to gain distance from his slave name, he opposed American involvement in the Vietnam War and he put his athletic career on hold for years in the name of social consciousness.
If you could choose a song for Muhammad Ali - what would it be about? Would it be about heroes? Would it be about butterflies, or bees, or strength, or inspiration? Help us decide as we put together 30 minutes of songs for the man who might just be the single most important sports icon of our lifetime.
