New music venue coming to Minneapolis

City Pages reports that the former firehouse that long served as a home to Patrick's Cabaret will reopen on Sept. 2 as the Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge. "The Hook — apparently it's cool to call it that — will boast dual performance stages, a state-of-the-art digital sound/lighting system, and a spring dance floor." Charlie Parr will be the first performer to play the new venue, which will be run by a dedicated nonprofit organization.

New Order to release beer

New Order are releasing a beer named after the song "Stray Dog" from their recent album Music Complete. The beer, from Moorhouse's Brewery in the UK, "is a golden ale with 'hints of citrus fruit and lychee, all balanced by a subtle bitterness,'" reports Pitchfork. Stray Dog ber is set for release this fall.

De La Soul catalog in limbo

The New York Times notes that even as De La Soul release a new album, And the Anonymous Nobody (Aug. 26), their classic back catalog is indefinitely blocked from digital release due to challenges securing the necessary permissions to stream the dozens of samples per album. "We’re in the Library of Congress, but we’re not on iTunes," said the group's Kelvin Mercer in frustration.

Who will play Super Bowl 51?

Super Bowl 50 is over, so obviously it's time to start speculating about who's going to play the halftime show — the most widely-viewed live music event of the year — at the next pro football championship. According to media reports cited by Billboard, Adele is in discussions to anchor halftime at Super Bowl 51. "It’s Adele’s nerves that are the issue," an unidentified "insider" says.
