Music News: J Mascis, Nathaniel Rateliff, more to cover 'Revolver' songs for 50th anniversary

J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Cheap Trick, James Taylor, and other artists will cover songs from Revolver to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ classic album. The covers will air on a special episode of Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show on Oct. 7. (Rolling Stone)
Eight Days a Week, the new Ron Howard documentary about the Beatles' touring years, has had its theatrical run extended for a third week due to strong ticket sales. The documentary is also available on Hulu, and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 18. (Billboard)
Family emergency for Kanye
On Sunday night, Kanye West ended his Meadows Music and Arts Festival set early, telling the Queens crowd he had "a family emergency." It was later revealed that emergency was the fact that his wife Kim Kardashian had been held up at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room. "She is badly shaken but physically unharmed," a representative told CNN. (Rolling Stone)
Justin Vernon goes techno
As the acclaimed new Bon Iver album 22, A Million was released this past Friday, Justin Vernon was in Berlin for the Michelberger Music event — assembled by Vernon along with Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner of the National. On Saturday, Vernon joined members of the team that created his beloved OP-1 Portable Synthesizer to perform a live house and techno set. (Pitchfork)
Sharon Jones ailing
Sharon Jones has been forced to cancel her planned appearance at Monday's White House event South by South Lawn. Jones is suffering from pneumonia, but her band the Dap-Kings will still perform — with Binky Griptite and Saun & Starr filling in for the sick singer. (Billboard)

Roger Waters performs massive free concert in Mexico City
On Saturday night, 200,000 fans attended a free performance by Roger Waters in Mexico City. Over the course of two hours, Waters performed many of his most famous songs and took political pot shots at targets including Donald Trump ("you're a fool") and Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto ("your policies have failed"). Mike Watt announces '95 live album
