Music News: Ken Bone was almost a Minnesota rock drummer
October 13, 2016

At Sunday night's presidential debate, undecided voter Ken Bone became an instant internet sensation for his distinctive style and his disposable camera. It's now emerged that Bone used to play drums in a Christian rock band — and that he almost brought his sticks to our own fair state. City Pages caught up with St. Paul resident Joshua Burkett, who played in a band called Broken Vessel with Bone.
This was in their native Granite City, Ill. in the early 2000s, when they were both in their late teens. According to Burkett, the band played "Christian pop covers from like the '90s and 2000s, like from DC Talk and Newsboys." Burkett tried to convince Bone to move up to Minnesota, where Burkett was attending North Central University — "I was very close to making Ken a Minnesotan," Burkett says — but ultimately Bone "met his wife and fell in love, so he stayed in Illinois."
