Coffee Break: Supermoon

November 14, 2016

With the Nov. 13 supermoon rising in the background, a man looks out from a balcony in Madrid. At its closest pass to Earth, the full moon can look up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter, NASA says.

The brightest supermoon in almost 70 years rose last night, and it reached the peak of its full phase at 7:52 am today.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, this supermoon is referred to as the Beaver Moon, as it signifies the best time to set beaver traps before rivers, lakes and streams freeze over. In case you missed seeing the moon this time, the next time a moon will sail this close to Earth will be in November 2034. So write that down in your planner.
