He writes:

"Quite honestly, I wasn't feeling exceedingly thankful for 2016, what with the terrible losses we've experienced and just the overall tumultuousness of the world. But, I figured that maybe it'd be cathartic for myself to create something and be helpful to others as well.

So, I decided to have my usual Fritz the turkey character paying homage to Prince this year. Even with the terrible loss of Prince and how it affected us here, I grew exceedingly thankful for how amazing the local response was and the way it showed just how strong and supportive our community can be. That is the inspiration for this year's turkey illustration. I also included small nods to the loss of Bowie and the recent passing of the great Sharon Jones... both favorites of mine.

So, it's certainly not as light hearted as my turkeys of years past. However, I think that art is indicative of the time in which it's created. If I'm still reeling from the loss of these musical icons and feeling trepidations for 2017, yet thankful for the strength and unity of the great community we live in, then I figure maybe others are as well."
